YORK COUNTY, Va. - A former private tennis coach was sentenced for two counts of indecent liberties with a minor. In May 2014, Gordon Hammersley, 32, was arrested when one of his former students, a then 15-year-old girl, told authorities he raped her at his apartment, according to WTKR.

In the criminal complaint, the girl told police Hammersley had her perform oral sex on him in his car four times a week for seven months.  The complaint also said Hammersley admitted to police that the two had sex, but claimed it was consensual.  Hammersley also admitted the girl performed oral sex on him seven times and knew she was only 15 years old.  He was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a minor.

Hammersley pleaded guilty to the charges in November and was sentenced to five years in prison for each charge, according to WTKR.  However, his sentence was suspended.  Instead, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will remain on probation for 10 years.

According to the York County Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, the victim was not asking for jail time, but had asked for Hammersley to register as a sex offender. Hammersley does not have any prior criminal history.
