Football players accused of raping women after final season game

OGENAW COUNTY, Mich. — Two former Mid-Michigan high school football players have been charged with the rape of two women.

The two suspects played football for Whittemore-Prescott High School,according to a report from WNEM.

According to their warrant, they allegedly raped two women after the final game season in 2014.

Travis Shoemaker, 18, and Jens Gillings, 19, were arraigned and charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to records, Shoemaker was a senior who graduated in May and Gillings graduated in 2014.

The two are accused of raping two different women at a Prescott-area hunting cabin last November. The hunting cabin is allegedly owned by the assistant football coach.

Since the season ended, head football coach Kyle Tobin resigned. His name, as well as several football members, are listed in as witnesses in the warrant.

Michigan State Police were keeping fairly quiet on the matter, but Lt. Melvin Mathews spoke to WNEM.

“Post was investigating some complaints that came in where some young gals were sexually assaulted by two individuals here in Ogemaw County, and based on that investigation, those individuals are charged with [criminal sexual conduct],” Mathews said.

These charges carry a max of life in prison, and the next court date for the two men is scheduled for Aug. 13.
