‘Dangerous’ suspect wanted in Hillside homicide, should not be approached

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to locate a man wanted in connection with a recent homicide.

At approximately 4:50 p.m. on July 14,  officers responded to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue for a report of a shooting. The body of Benjamin Alston, 29, of the 2400 block of Harwood Street, was found lying on the sidewalk outside one of the apartment buildings.

Police said the shooting is believed to have stemmed from an altercation.

Jermal L. Barksdale, Jr., 19, of the 1500 block of Lone Street, is wanted on two firearms charges related to the homicide.

Police described Barksdale as a 5-foot 5-inch tall, black male weighing approximately 130-140 pounds.

He is considered dangerous and should not be approached. If seen, please contact the Richmond Police Department immediately.
