CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -– Two Chesterfield Police officers received special recognition for saving a man from a burning home.

"We would like to thank Officers Ebalo and Tower for their quick thinking during a devastating house fire this weekend. While trying to locate any occupants in the burning home, Officers Ebalo and Tower found a man inside," Chesterfield Police posted on Facebook. "The man, having just awoken, did not seem to understand that the house was on fire. Officers Ebalo and Tower removed the window screen, grabbed the man, and pulled him through the window, dragging him to safety."

Friday night's house fire along the 10300 block of Elokomin Avenue was later ruled arson. Timothy Alan , Jr., 23, was arrested and charged for setting that fire.

"It took crews approximately 20 minutes to get the fire under control. Fire damage was contained to one room of the house but it did sustain smoke damage throughout,” Chesterfield Fire and EMS spokesman Lt. Jason Elmore said.

"Being a First Responder requires you to act quickly in all kinds of emergencies," Chesterfield Police added. "Job well done to these officers, their co-workers, the Emergency Communications Officers and the Chesterfield Fire and EMS Department."
