MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Customers are angry over an apparent up-charge and “black couple” note on the receipt they were given at a restaurant in Missouri. A photo of the receipt shows the “black couple” note at the top of the receipt and a non-itemized charge of $1.50.

Patrick Hanon, the restaurant’s owner, posted on Facebook and apologized for the receipt. He said the employee made an “extremely bad decision when she could not remember her table numbers.” He also said the $1.50 charge was for a double-shot of a liquor.

The employee has been terminated, according to Hanon.

Hanon also said the ability for servers to label receipts with descriptive words has been removed from their system.
