CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – Multiple cars were broken into near the Meadowbrook Country Club, overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

The teenage thieves have been caught, according to neighbors off Southmoor Road. But not before windows were broken, items stolen and cars damaged.

One family woke up on the day of their father’s funeral to find their car trashed.

"I was in tears because I don't have a radio in my so my iPod is my music," Susan Reason, whose car was broken into said.

Julius Huggins, a Marine who serves on the neighborhood watch, said that one car had a large knife inside and the teens attempted to set it on fire.

"It appeared they actually tried to burn the vehicle's interior and exterior," Huggins said.

Huggins said police officers told him that at least five teenagers are in custody.

"These seem to be impulsive teenagers who just don't care," Huggins added.

A teen also attempted to steal a Nissan Altima, according to the car owners. The teen crashed it into the ravine next to their driveway, and that’s when the family said they called 911.

Chesterfield Police have so far not confirmed the incident.
