Tractor-trailer driver charged in five-vehicle crash on 288

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A tractor trailer driver has been charged with reckless driving following a five-vehicle crash on RT 288 about 1/2 mile north of RT 360 around 5:39 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. Steve Vick with the Virginia State Police said the wreck happen when traffic stopped on RT 288 and a 2015 Peterbilt tractor trailer swerved to the right shoulder striking two vehicles.

“A  Honda Civic got rear ended by the tractor-trailer and then rear ended a black Ford explorer. The Ford was also struck by the tractor trailer and was lodged underneath the trailer when it overturned,” Vick wrote in a news release. “The tractor trailer then sideswiped a Toyota 4runner and also struck a Mercedes Benz in the rear.”

There were minor injures to the driver in the Ford Explorer.  The accident backed up traffic approximately three miles.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Leonard Dean, Jr. of Florida was charged with reckless driving.
