HOPEWELL, Va. — A woman suffered a minor injury after a gun was fired near the Waffle House on Plaza Drive in Hopewell early Thursday morning. The person was shot in the calf, Hopewell Police said.

“Officers were within 20 yards of a large crowd where the shots were fired. After the shots were fired, the crowd quickly dispersed and officers were unable to determine who had the weapon,” a Hopewell Police spokesman said. “A vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers located the vehicle at John Randolph Medical Center where a 25-year-old female was transported. The female was within the crowd in the parking lot and suffered a single non-life threatening gunshot wound to her left lower leg.”

The shooting was reported at about 2:10 a.m. The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 541-2202. Anyone with additional information can submit a news tip or photo here.
