RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was wounded in her car in the parking lot of a nursing home on Richmond's Southside late Wednesday. Police responded to a call for a person shot at the parking lot of the Envoy Westover Hills in the 4400 block of Forest Hill Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.

Police said the victim was driving when she was shot, but that she did not realize she had been wounded until she pulled into Envoy's Nursing Home parking lot. That's when she called police. The woman was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Additionally, police received shots fired calls in the area. Police think the shots came from the neighborhood to north of the facility headed toward the river and away from Forest Hill. Two other cars were also damaged by gunfire.

Police do not yet know if the victim was targeted, but said the shooter was standing nearby and was not in a car. Officials have not yet released a description of the suspect.

If you have information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
