MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — While the Fourth of July is a huge celebration all across the country, for one Mechanicsville woman it was a milestone occasion.

Mrs. Estelle Hudgins was born in Sandston on July 4, 1915.

The spry 100-year-old was walking around the church, singing songs and enjoying her birthday celebration at Rockhill Baptist Church.

“I’m having more fun than I can enjoy,” Hudgins laughed. “God has blessed me to have lived this long — 100 years old. I don’t know anyone in our family that has lived this long. They have lived to be 98, but they didn’t make 100.”

More than 350 guests attended her birthday party.

We hope you had a fantastic birthday, Mrs.  Estelle. Thank you for spending part of your birthday with CBS 6 Photojournalist Chris Jenkins.

Be sure to watch Jenkins’ complete, uncut interview with Mrs. Hudgins in the video player at the top of this story.
