“Major accident on I-64 E just before Williamsburg. All lanes shut down. At least 3 mile backup,” Jay Michael Dunn said.

NEWKENT COUNTY, Va. — Accidents have traffic snarled along I-64 west in New Kent County and I-64 east in James City County on the Fourth of July.

The first delay near the West Point exit for Route 30 closed I-64 westbound’s right shoulder because of an accident on I-64 east. That had traffic backed up for seven miles as of 11:45 a.m.

The multi-vehicle wreck along I-64 east closed the interstate’s right shoulder near the exit for Route 601.  That backed up traffic for about two miles as of 11:30 a.m.

Depend on CBS 6 News and WTVR.com for complete traffic coverage this holiday weekend.

“Bad accident on 64 east past Williamsburg. Been shut down for 30 minutes,” Jennifer Snyder Waters‎ said.
