HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A dog has been quarantined after it may have come in contact with the remains of a rabid raccoon located in the family's yard in Henrico County.

It happened Wednesday at a home in the 6400 block of Scandia Lake Place in a neighborhood off Elko Road.

"There were no additional exposures to animals or humans reported. The dog involved will receive a booster shot and will be quarantined at the owner’s home," officials said in a news release.

This is the seventh confirmed positive rabies case in Henrico this year.

"Henrico Police Animal Protection reminds everyone to be sure to keep their pets’ rabies vaccinations current to ensure the safety of their pets and our community. Please report abnormal wildlife behavior to the Henrico Police Non-Emergency Communications Center at 804-501-5000," officials urged.
