HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police tell CBS 6 News one person was killed and another sent to the hospital after a two-vehicle wreck in eastern Henrico Thursday night.

It happened along north Laburnum Avenue at Kingsridge Road not far from Nine Mile Road. That's where witnesses said a white van and a Hyundai Sonata collided.

Witnesses said the wreck happened as the van was approaching from the opposite side of the entrance to an apartment complex while the sedan was coming from Kingsridge. The vehicles collided and the van flipped, according to witnesses.

Police said the driver of the van died at the scene. Police are searching for a passenger in the van witnesses said crawled from the wreckage and then ran away on foot.

One person in the Hyundai Sonata was taken to an area hospital and is reported in stable condition.

Burkett talked to a nurse who was sitting in a car nearby who heard the crash and called 911.

Police have closed the intersection while officers investigate what caused the wreck.
