VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- A Virginia Beach man thought his phone was gone forever, until a recent check of his iPhone photos. Joe Harris found nearly 40 pictures, three videos and several selfies of strangers on his stolen iPhone through his iCloud account. Harris said the phone was taken right out of his car last month.

"They took some change, took some Christmas presents, took my old iPhone along with the car charger and that’s when I realized my car was broken into,” Harris told WTKR.

Harris thought it wasn’t worth calling police about the incident until he recently when he children found photos taken May 30 and May 31 in his iCloud account. It turned out Harris’ new iPhone was linked up with his stolen phone via iCloud. iCloud is a feature on iPhones which syncs all your devices.

"I was very surprised that they didn’t realize it. Actually I didn’t realize that the iPhone was synced up,” Harris said. “I was shocked to see that they had taken 30 something selfies."

Harris said he did not know if the pictures he found showed the person who took the phone, but the photos could be the clue to help solve the crime.

"It’s not the right thing to do," Harris said. "I just hope someone recognized them."
