The Red Cross is holding a number of blood drives in the Richmond- metro area.
Blood donations tend to slow down this time of year with people out of town on vacation, especially when it comes to college students, who make up a big portion of blood donors.
The blood goes toward hospitals treating all sorts of patients, from people with traumatic injuries to people undergoing cancer treatment.

If you donate blood between July 2 and July 6, you can receive a Red Cross embroidered baseball hat while supplies last.
