GOOCHLAND, Va. –A woman was fatally struck along Interstate 64 eastbound, near exit 173 (Rockville) in the left lane. The fatal crash occurred around 3:40 p.m., according to police.
A woman and her husband were traveling along I-64 when their vehicle broke down. They crossed the interstate to seek assistance from someone at the construction site in the middle of the interstate, according to Sgt. Vick with Virginia State Police.
The man and the construction worker safely crossed back, but the woman was hit by a pickup truck when she attempted to cross. She died on scene.
There were no other injuries and no charges have been filed.
The east left shoulder and left lane are closed as police investigate.
