In life, Stephanie Rochon Moten had a knack for bringing people together.

One week after her passing, our beloved friend and colleague at CBS 6 is still pulling loved ones close from far and wide. They traveled from Chicago and Washington to Hartford and Atlanta.

Family, friends, CBS 6 colleagues, sorority sisters, and fellow parishioners gathered to bid Steph farewell, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Henrico County.

The loving wife and mother of two boys lost her eight-month battle with cancer on June 3, a month after she turned 50.

She brought together people of many paths, to honor her and celebrate the life of an exceptional woman.

Rochon was deeply committed to her faith and church. She dedicated much of her time volunteering at church activities including bible study.

Stephanie would even craft her own liturgy just weeks before her death. She hand-picked each bible reading and each song.

The stinging question of why someone would be taken so young hung in the air. A priest trying put her untimely death into perspective would quote the iconic artist, Dr. Seuss who wrote: “Don`t cry because it`s over. Smile because it happened.”

During her eulogy, Stephanie`s brother said he hopes those mourning Stephanie`s death find comfort knowing she was finally at peace.

Stephanie was described as the hub of a bicycle wheel, who possessed a true gift of drawing so many people together.

That ability was on full display at Our Lady of Lourdes as her loved ones, the people she touched in life welcomed her home.

Stephanie is survived by her husband Jeff and two boys Pierce and Miles; as well as her mother, father and her brother. In the coming weeks the newsroom here at WTVR - the office she worked at for nearly 16 years will be dedicated as the Stephanie Rochon Memorial Newsroom.
