Teen struck by lightning in Henrico neighborhood

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Officials said a teen was hurt after he was struck by lightning Monday afternoon when storms rolled through his neighborhood.

It happened on Winnetka Avenue near the corner of Edgefield Street and Azalea Avenue not far from Henrico High School.

Henrico fire officials said a large lightning storm came through the neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. That’s when the victim, a teenage male, was struck.

Officials said the teen was conscious and walking after the incident. He was taken to the hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, a separate incident sparked a transformer fire nearby. Officials said think the blaze, which was quickly extinguished, was sparked by lightning.
