Weekend Events: Mother’s Day events, Central Virginia Wine Festival, Civil War Food Fest and more

It’s an annual tradition at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, the Mother’s Day Weekend Celebrations Friday, May 8th through Sunday, May 10th.  Activities in the Children’s Garden to the annual Mother’s Day Concert featuring Glenroy Bailey & Co. at Bloemendaal House and For the first time, the popular Butterflies LIVE! exhibit is open for Mother’s Day. All activities, Butterflies LIVE! and the concert are free with Garden admission $12 adults; $11 seniors; $8 children ages 3 – 12 and free for children under age 3. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Brown’s Island, the Island opens at 7am, at 7:45 survivors meet for the Survivor “Foto and Frolic, the kids dash is at 8:30am, followed by the Race for the Cure 5K Run/Walk at 9am. For more details visit

Science on Tap Craft Beer Festival at the Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 West Broad Street, Saturday, May 9th, 2 – 6pm  featuring local breweries, live music and the science behind the drinks. 2nd annual War Between the Tastes: Civil War Food Festival, Henrico County Recreation and Parks, Saturday, May 9, noon – 4pm at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park, 3400 Mountain Road in Glen Allen, Explore Civil War history using your five senses in various activities, games, presentations and music from the 1860s. A Taste of New Kent Wine Festival, Saturday, May 9, 11am – 6pm, A Taste of New Kent with 12 Virginia wineries, vendors, food trucks, and Kings of Swing. The Nina & Pinta, replicas of two of Christopher Columbus’ ships are on display in Richmond,Sunday, the ships depart on Monday, May 11.  The ships are docked at Rocketts Landing: The Nina replica was built by hand without the use of power tools. The Pinta replica was built-in Brazil and is larger than the original.  The public is invited to tour the ships. Admission tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for students ages 5 to 16. Children 4 and under can enter for free.

The Hindu Center of Virginia and Gandharva School of Music have joined forces to bring you a Mother’s Day Nepal Relief Concert and Dinner Sunday, May 10th, 6pm
