Police seek person who killed teenage woman found in car

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Police have released the name of the teenage woman who was shot and killed inside a car in Petersburg . Shaakira N. Ross, 19, was alone in the car on Fort Rice Street when police found her at about 10 p.m. Monday. Police responded to the area for a report of a shooting.

"The emergency medical crew transported Ms. Ross to Southside Regional Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries," a Petersburg Police spokeswoman wrote in an email. "Police do not have suspect information, yet, but are encouraged that the community will help to solve the death of Shaakira Ross."

Investigators were back on scene Tuesday morning looking for clues and interviewing witnesses to the shooting. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Solvers at 861-1212. Anyone with additional information to add to the news report, can email that information here.
