HANOVER COUNTY, Va. – School leaders say a bus driver was just starting her route Tuesday morning to pick up kids and drop them off to South Anna elementary when she collided with pickup truck on the way.

Police in Hanover County have charged the bus driver with following too close.

A friend of the driver says the she knows the driver would never intentionally put her riders in harm’s way.

"Everybody knows how nice she is...sweet person do anything for you whatever,” said Linda Trongone, friend of bus driver.

That's the way Trongone describes her close friend.

"She's been driving the bus for a long time, so, I know she's going to be really upset about it,” said Trongone.

Deputies say the driver of the pickup was transported to the hospital -- so were the four kids on board the bus as a precaution.

"She's a very good driver and I know she feels terrible if there were kids on the bus. She'd be very upset if any of those kids had gotten hurt,” said Trongone.

"She loves kids. She loves them. She wouldn't hurt them for anything,” said Trongone.

CBS 6 asked Hanover County School officials how long has the bus driver been employed with the county and if she’s on paid leave, but they couldn’t comment, citing it as a personnel matter.
