STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Sheriff’s deputies said a man accused gunning down an FBI police officer early Monday morning in Stafford County has been arrested.
Investigators found 29-year-old Jeremy Brown’s body after they were called to Clint Lane at about 5 a.m. Monday.
Deputies said that Brown, a police officer with the FBI Police, was leaving his home at 110 Abbey Lane just after 5 a.m. when he was confronted by 26-year-old Antoine Gray Johnson.
“Officer Brown and Antoine Johnson knew each other. Gun shots were exchanged during the confrontation and Officer Brown was killed,” a sheriff’s office spokesman wrote in an email. “The reason for the confrontation is part of the ongoing investigation.”
Twenty minutes after area law enforcement agencies were alerted to the crime, a deputy from the King George County Sheriff’s Office spotted Johnson’s vehicle near Caledon and Dahlgren roads. Johnson was apprehended along Route 301 in Dahlgren. Officials said that a handgun “of the same caliber used in the homicide” was found inside his vehicle.
“Stafford detectives’ investigation during the day clearly indicated that Antoine Johnson was responsible for the homicide,” a sheriff’s office spokesman wrote in an email.
Officials said that Johnson, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Johnson is being incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office officials thanked witnesses from the neighborhood that provided a vital description of the suspect and his vehicle.
