Korean War veteran laid to rest Saturday

CHESTERFIELD, Va. -- For more than 60 years, the Lockett family had been waiting for answers until they finally received the phone call they had been hoping for.

"Initially my father thought it was a joke," said Sgt. Leonardo Lockett.

Army Corporal Lindsey Lockett was reported missing in North Korea back in 1950. His grandson, Sgt. Leonardo Lockett said the family had believe his grandfather had died and was buried in North Korea.

"We didn't know if he was going to be found or not just because the tensions going on in North Korea," said Sgt. Lockett.

However, on Thursday, Corporal Lockett was finally brought back home to the Richmond area where he grew up.

"For my grandmother, it's completely closure that my grandfather is home," said Sgt. Lockett.

On Saturday, the family was finally able to lay the veteran to rest where friends and family gathered to give him the proper goodbye.

"It's surreal and it's the outpouring of the public and everybody around just coming together," said Sgt. Lockett.

Sgt. Lockett never new his grandfather except through stories. However, he said they will all be forever thankful that they years of wondering are now over.

"It's that closure, he's home," he said.
