RICHMOND, Va. — Army Cpl. Lindsey C. Lockett is coming home to rest in peace. Lockett was declared missing in action in 1950 during the Korean War. The then 24-year-old soldier and his division were occupying a position near Somin-dong, North Korea, when their unit was overwhelmed by Chinese forces, according to the U.S. Army.

Four years later, Lockett’s remains were part of a war dead exchange between the United Nations and Communist Forces. Unidentified remains were interred as unknowns at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. The remain stayed in Hawaii for years until advances in technology allowed the Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii to re-examine and eventually identify the remains.

Lockett’s remains will be returned to his family in Richmond where he will be buried with full military honors on April 11.
