HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A Henrico father killed in a crash at Laburnum Avenue and Nine Mile Road this month was remembered by relatives as a family man. James E. Williams, 64, was killed March 24 when his car ran off the road and hit a tree in eastern Henrico. Neither alcohol nor speed appeared to play a role in this crash, police said.

Williams was one of nine brothers and sisters, his niece Sherri Winnegan shared.

“He always has been there for his family, even though he sometimes lived hours away,” she recalled. “His family is missing him terribly.”

Williams was born and raised in Isle of Wight County. He leaves behind a daughter and three sons, along with his siblings, nieces and nephews.

“He made sure he traveled to Smithfield every weekend to check on his family,” Winnegan said. “It’s going to be hard to deal with knowing that he won’t be able to make that trip anymore.”

The Henrico Crash Team continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
