RICHMOND, VA --  "They are calling this 'Snowpocalypse,'" Kevin Moss said as he dug out his girlfriend's car in Shockoe Slip on Tuesday, the day after about six inches fell downtown.

"The hospitals don't close so she has to go to work," Moss said.

Similar scenes played out across Central Virginia, with AAA setting a new record for calls on Monday. Nearly 2,000 residents called for help, with most requesting battery assistance.

Kevin Harris, a shift supervisor with AAA, said he expects calls to increase on Wednesday when most begin to emerge from their snow day slumber.

"If you drive in two-wheel drive, it's better to drive in a lower gear," Harris said.

Mark Haigler's son car got stuck in a bank off  of a neighborhood road, that is why he called for AAA's help.

"He's not very slow,' Haigler said. "He likes to go fast and so that's why I didn't want him driving today."
