AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – Investigators arrested 43-year old Edward Marshall on Friday for the home invasion that resulted in a homicide. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Martins Lane in Madison Heights, Virginia.

On Jan. 22, 81-year-old Norma Jean Freeman and her son 63-year-old Allen Freeman Jr.  were brutally assaulted in their home after their residence was entered by an intruder, according to investigators.

After regaining consciousness, the son, Allen Jr. was able to call a relative, who called 911.  Both victims were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital Emergency Department.

Mrs. Freeman, the mother, later died from her injuries while Allen Jr. is considered in critical condition. Allen Jr. and his mother both suffered injuries from blunt force trauma.
