CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va.  -- Six hounds had to be taken to a veterinarian for immediate treatment and eight hounds were taken straight to the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter after they were seized from a hunt club.

A tip from a club member brought law enforcement out to investigate.

"Police responded for a report of multiple hunting dogs with inadequate food and shelter," a Chesterfield Police spokeswoman confirmed. "The investigation continues. At this point, all of the dogs are expected to survive."

Investigators said they found the dogs were malnourished. Water left for the dogs to drink was frozen over.

The dogs were seized Sunday, January 11, from a hunt club along the 19900 block of River Road in Chesterfield.

"The dogs were housed at a hunt club, but belonged to Anthony R. Paschall," the police spokeswoman said.

Paschall, 39, of Oak Hill Road, was charged with various crimes including cruelty to animals, not having a county dog license and having dogs without a rabies shot.

This is a developing story.
