PETERSBURG, Va. -- A string of violent crimes has Petersburg police looking for suspects who shot and killed two men and critically injured another.

The crime spree started Tuesday night around 11 when police found the body of Jabari Lee on Slagle Avenue.

Less than two hours later a car was shot several times. The driver and passenger were both hit. The passenger Jamonta  Jones died at VCU Medical Center.

Another shooting happened about 12 hours later in the Pin Oaks housing community.

Marlow Jones who coached Jamonta Jones since he was seven says he feels for the families of the victims who have to start 2015 on such a tragic note.

“To bury a child is tough. It's a sad thing,” Jones said. “Going into a new year nothing is going to be the same. We have to pull together, everybody.”

A third shooting happened around noon Wednesday. Police found a wounded man inside a car at the Pin Oaks housing community just blocks from the first shooting. Paramedics took the victim to Southside Regional Medical Center. No word yet on his condition.
