RICHMOND, Va. - The major west coast storm system we've been tracking for you is moving inland this Friday morning. This storm has already dumped almost a foot of rain in parts of California, produced wind gusts in the mountains of 135mph (Soda Springs, CA) and is currently well on its way to loading a foot to a foot and a half of snow in the Sierras.

By the time the cold front linked to this system reaches us Tuesday, it will no longer carry the rich moisture it is currently drawing in from the Pineapple Express (an atmospheric river of rich moisture traveling from Hawaii to California) off the Pacific. Here, we can expect more cloud-cover Tuesday and only the slimmest chance for a few rain showers. The cold front won't even lead to a significant drop in temperatures next week, with highs staying in the 50s in its wake. CLICK HERE to see our latest local forecast.
