HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A Hermitage High School student was taken into custody Friday morning for bringing a loaded gun to school.

The school’s resource officer found the gun after the school received a tip that the student was carrying a firearm. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

“At no time was the weapon brandished toward any student, and the student in question is in custody,” Henrico County Schools spokesman Andy Jenks said in a statement. “We appreciate the willingness of our students to take the initiative to inform our staff with information that helps us to preserve our safe school environment.”

Jenks said the school day continued on as scheduled following the discovery of the gun.

This is a developing story.
