Christmas lights can be costly when the electric bill comes in the mail, but this Chesterfield family had some tips about how to hold on to your cash.

For over 20 years, this display has been the Thompson family's labor of love.

"It keeps growing every year…yeah that's the fun part," said Paul Thompson, who estimated that this year they have between 60 – 65,000 lights.

Seeing those lights is a holiday tradition that draws people to Walton Drive in Chesterfield every year.

"Oh it's so nice."
"I like the whole thing."
"Lots of fun."

The display is how Paul Thompson and his son Chris spread holiday cheer.

"Still have a lot more to do,” Paul said. The Thompson’s have this project almost down to a science – an economic science.

"We've made a 100-percent conversion over to LED,” Paul said, and added that saved them hundreds on this impressive display.

"Less than a 100 bucks…because they are all LED -- burns virtually nothing."

It’s a little extra effort that pays off big-- helping to brighten others spirits. And it doesn’t break their budget.
