From trains and fruitcake to a unique New Year’s celebration – the Science Museum of Virginia has all the right elements for a perfect holiday season!

38th Annual Model Railroad Show
November 27 – 29
Featuring all the bells and whistles, guests will enjoy unique and traditional model train displays from across the state. Prance with Clydesdales, see healthy holiday cooking demonstrations and take a ride on the Teddy Bear Train! Learn how trains work, conduct experiments, check out special demonstrations and enjoy a holiday weekend filled with fun for the whole family.

Dominion Christmas Parade from the Science Museum of Virginia
December 5
Get a glimpse at one of the world’s largest fruitcakes (the Museum’s fruitcake balloon, of course) at Richmond’s annual parade. Launching from the Museum, guests are invited to join us for a front row view of this spectacular holiday event.

Fruitcake Science
December 26 – 30
During this quirky, annual holiday event the Museum will conduct unconventional experiments on everyone’s least favorite holiday treat, the fruitcake! Watch in amazement as Museum educators burn, drop and freeze fruitcakes. Build your own catapult or stand back as we celebrate Trebuchet Tuesday on December 29 to fling fruitcake with finesse!

Noon Year’s Eve
December 31
Ring in the Noon Year with our distinctive, quirky twist to the annual ball drop! Build your own geodesic paper globes, check out unique liquid Nitrogen demonstrations, experiment with marshmallows and tackle Moov kits in the Challenge Lab. Kick off the New Year right with science on your side!
