SHORT PUMP, Va. — One of the first restaurants to open in Short Pump’s West Broad Village shopping center has closed. Mimi’s Cafe closed its doors  Monday.

“As we remain tenaciously focused on positive financial results and continue to assess where we are best positioned for long-term success, we have made the difficult decision to close our restaurant in Richmond,” Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Mimi’s Café Bill Schaffler said.

Mimi’s Cafe opened in 2009 and, along with Kona’a Grill and Keagans Restaurant & Tavern, was among the first restaurants to open in the multimillion dollar Short Pump development which combined shopping, office space and homes.

“Retailers are funny to read. Sometimes you get a heads up about a closing, sometimes you don’t,” CBRE/Richmond  Vice President Frank Galleher said about the closing of Mimi’s Cafe. “There’s a lot involved. Whatever happens, if they do close for good and the lease is terminated, we’ll find someone to fill the building.”

Galleher said business has been great for West Broad Village’s eight remaining restaurants.

In addition to closing its Short Pump location, Mimi’s Cafe also closed restaurants in Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg.

“We appreciate the time we were able to treat the people of Richmond to a delicious taste of France at Mimi’s and invite them to visit any of our more than 109 locations,”Schaffler said.
