ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A group of 10 people banded together to stop an attack on a 76-year-old woman outside a Florida Winn-Dixie grocery store last week.

One of those good Samaritans, Navy veteran Kendrick Taylor, is earning accolades for going above and beyond to catch the woman's attacker.

WESH reportsthat Taylor was headed to the gym when he saw 76-year-old Rosemary Carelton being attacked.

"What if that was my grandmother?”  Taylor asked. "She was screaming for help that's when I went over to help her."

Like a commando, Taylor ran straight at him, never considering the danger.

"When I looked down, I didn't know if he had a knife or a gun. But I just saw the lady,” Taylor explained. “She was so old. And when he threw her down, she was so fragile and I knew she needed help."

The attacker ran away from Taylor and two others. Video captured the chaos of the suspect trying to get away with Taylor in pursuit, finally taking him down hard.

"When I finally got my hands on him... I told some local people to call the police, and they got here and I kept him down," Taylor said.

The 23-year-old  suspect, John Desjardin, who is already on probation, was charged with attempted robbery and battery on a person over 65.

"He definitely should face some type of jail time,” Taylor said. “He has to know what he did was very wrong."
