MOJAVE DESERT, California — One person died and another was seriously injured as a result of Friday’s incident involving Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Borne said.

Aerial video from CNN affiliate KABC shows debris — part of which has a Virgin company logo — in California’s Mojave Desert.

This comes after Virgin Galactic said an accident resulted in the loss of its SpaceShipTwo during a powered test flight Friday.

“Virgin Galactic’s partner Scaled Composites conducted a powered test flight of SpaceShipTwo earlier today,” the company said in a statement. “During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of SpaceShipTwo. WK2 landed safely. We will work closely with relevant authorities to determine the cause of this accident and provide updates ASAP.”
