RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Police Department has made one arrest in connection with Sunday’s Coalter Street homicide.

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old male who lives in the 1300 block of Coalter Street, a block from where the shooting occurred.

The juvenile has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied building, burglary while armed and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Coalter Street for the report of shots fired, just before 1:30 in the morning on a Sunday.  Officers arrived and found Zyemontae Redd, 15, of the 4300 block of Hillbrook Avenue, Henrico, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Two other males found in the area of Coalter and Redd Streets were suffering from gunshot wounds that detectives believe occurred during the same incident. Their injuries are not life threatening.

“When I saw the bullets flying I just panicked; I was running I wasn’t thinking about nothing else,” said the 16-year-old girl.

Detectives received multiple tips from the community that aided the investigation and wish to thank citizens for their assistance. Detectives believe there may be more than one suspect in this case and ask the public to continue to provide information.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
