MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — More than 3,000 customers lost power in Mechanicsville Thursday morning when a truck lifting dumpsters knocked into a power pole, a Dominion Virginia Power spokesman said.

It took power crews about an hour to restore electricity to all the homes, businesses and schools left in the dark.

Dominion Virginia Power spokesman Rob Richardson said Dominion would have turned the lights on faster, however there was a crew working on nearby lines, so Dominion had to delay its re-route of power to ensure everyone’s safety.

He said about half of Dominion’s customers got power back within 30 minutes and the rest in about 50 minutes.

The truck hit a power pole located on Travellers Way, behind the Lowe’s along the 6400 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike.
