FOUND! 83-year-old woman with dementia is safe

UPDATE: “Ms. Gilliam has been located in Richmond and she is safe,” Petersburg Police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt said Monday. “Detectives are with her now.  Thank  you for your assistance in locating her.”

PETERBSURG, Va.  — Police are asking for the public’s help to locate an 83-year-old woman with dementia who was last seen Saturday night in Petersburg.

Officials said Emma Gilliam last spotted at her daughter’s home in the 1500 block of Stark Street on Saturday around 10 p.m. Family members discovered she was missing on Sunday morning.

Police said Gilliam, who suffers from dementia and asthma , maybe trying to travel back to her former home in Philadelphia.

Gilliam is described as a black female around five feet one and 125 pounds.

“She is wearing a long black jacket on top of several layers of clothing, a long black skirt, black ankle boots and a black hat over her brown wig (as shown in the picture),” Petersburg police spokesperson Esther Hyatt wrote in a news release. “She has packed clothes in a leopard cart with wheels and she also has a lock box with her.”

Police said Gilliam recently moved to Petersburg and is unfamiliar with the city.
