RICHMOND, Va. — UPS announced Wednesday that the company will be hiring more than 1,400 employees to fill a combination of both seasonal and permanent positions.

The openings are a combination of seasonal and permanent jobs, and include part-time package handlers and supervisors, full- and part-time delivery and tractor-trailer drivers, and driver-helpers.

Driver jobs start at more than $24 per hour for seasonal and permanent delivery drivers, and nearly $19 per hour for seasonal tractor-trailer drivers, said UPS in a statement issued to CBS 6.

Pay for part-time handler and driver-helper positions starts at $10-$11 an hour, and permanent part-time employees get health benefits and 401(k), the company said.

Part-time employees are also eligible for UPS’s recently enhanced Earn and Learn program, which now offers up to $25,000 in tuition assistance.

UPS is hiring at 9601 Coach Road in Richmond. More information and an online application are available at www.upsjobs.com.

Nationally, UPS expects to hire 90,000 to 95,000 seasonal employees to process the annual holiday surge in package processing and delivery that will begin in October and continue through January 2015.

These seasonal positions have long been an entry point for future permanent employment, training and career opportunity when the company assesses its local needs following the holidays.

FedEx and Kohl’s also announced holiday hiring binges Wednesday.
