RICHMOND, Va. — A trial date has been set for the 16-year-old boy indicted on murder charges in connection to the killing of eight-year-old Marty Cobb.

Mairese Washington’s two day trial is set to begin on November 17.  Washington was indicted in July, on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and strangulation, according to court records.

Cobb was killed May 1 along Brandon Road near his South Richmond home.

Family members said Marty Cobb was defending his 12-year-old sister from Washington when the teen then attacked Marty.

Washington was arrested two days later in connection with the homicide.

In June, a judge ruled Washington would be tried as an adult. Prior to that ruling, CBS 6 did not name Washington as the suspect, per station policy regarding the anonymity of juveniles.

A Richmond mother, unrelated to the Cobb case, later provided documents that showed Washington was charged with malicious wounding after a 2010 attack on her then three-year-old son. She said Washington used a hammer in that attack.
