HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A Chesterfield man was charged with a state weapons violation after he brought a loaded gun to Richmond International Airport, Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said. TSA officers stopped the Moseley man at the security checkpoint before he boarded the plane.

“TSA officers detected the .40 caliber firearm, which was loaded with eight rounds with one bullet in the chamber, in the [man’s] carry-on bag as he was passing through the airport checkpoint,” Farbstein said. “An additional ammunition magazine loaded with nine rounds was also packed with the gun.”

Capital Region Airport Commission Police confiscated the gun and cited the man, she said.

“As a reminder, weapons—including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition—are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline,” Farbstein said. “Passengers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA.”
