CHICAGO, (WGN)– A toddler is in the hospital Monday morning after being thrown from a parked vehicle and then struck as the car drove away.

It happened at about 2:30 a.m. near 75th and Cottage Grove on Chicago’s South Side.

Police say there was a violent argument between a man and a woman inside a parked car with two children inside the vehicle.

When the woman’s 7-year-old son got in the middle of the argument the man allegedly struck the child.

Police say the man then took an 18-month-old, threw her out the window and then struck the child with the car as he drove away.

Both children are hospitalized in stable condition Monday morning at Comer Children’s Hospital.

The man was taken into custody and charges are pending.
