COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- The search warrant for a car whose driver was shot by a Colonial Heights Police officer on Sunday reveals investigators found prescription medication and .380 caliber cartridges inside the vehicle.
That medication was for a Melissa Alexander. While she has not been named by police as the person who was shot, a Melissa Alexander is listed in critical but stable condition at VCU Medical Center.
A news release from Virginia State Police said the driver is a 43-year-old woman from South Carolina.
A woman with the same name has a warrant on file in Aiken County South Carolina on a fraudulent check charge.

The affidavit also said that the officer was running radar on Ellerslie Avenue on Sunday Morning, when he clocked a car running 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.
After attempting to stop the 2014 Dodge Avenger, a short pursuit began and ended about one mile away.
The affidavit goes on to say the officer tried to get the driver to step out of the car multiple times.
About a minute later, the driver got out and raised a handgun directly towards the officer, who fired several shots, according to the affidavit.
Virginia State Police are handling the investigation and will turn over their findings to the commonwealth's attorney for review.
