PHOENIX, Arizona — Phoenix police Sgt. Mike Gurry resigned Tuesday afternoon after workers allegedly caught him shoplifting at a North Phoenix Hobby Lobby.

Because he quit and wasn’t fired he’s still eligible to collect his pension.

Sgt. Gurry is a 29-year-veteran of the Phoenix police department.

He worked as a community action officer in the Black Mountain Precinct.

CBS 5 put in a request for Sgt. Gurry’s personnel file. We’re waiting for those records to see if he had any problems during his tenure. According to officials Sgt. Gurry wasn’t taken to jail. Instead he was cited and released.

CBS 5 went to Sgt. Gurry’s house after the arrest to try and get his side of the story but no one came to the door.

Neighbors said he lived there with his family for many years and that they had always kept to themselves.

It’s still unknown exactly what Sgt. Gurry is accused of stealing.
