HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Investigators are piecing together a clearer picture of when Hopewell cab driver James Wells, whose body is believed to have been found in his burned out van last week, was last spotted alive.

Hanover deputies announced Tuesday that the Marshall taxi cab driver left Hopewell at about 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 headed to Mechanicsville. He was driving a gray 2004 Chevrolet minivan with decals with white lettering on the sides and rear that displayed “Marshall Cab L.L.C.”

Family members said the 26-year old was going to drop off a fare at the Chickahominy apartments on Sporting Lane.

Investigators said they have evidence showing Wells was in the area of Cold Harbor Road and Stonewall Parkway, which is about a half a mile away, later that morning.

The medical examiner is still working to positively identify the victim and determine the cause of death.

If you think you saw Wells between Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9, call Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
