RICHMOND, Va. — We could be just a few weeks away from raising a glass in celebration of Stone Brewing Co.’s arrival in Richmond. The San Diego-based beer company confirmed on Facebook that Richmond is one of three finalists in the running to land its new East Coast brewery.

“We have narrowed the focus of our search for an Eastern U.S. brewery to Columbus, Ohio, Norfolk, Virginia and Richmond, Virginia, but won’t be at a point where we can announce our final decision until at least several weeks from now. But we’re excited and on our way,” the Stone Brewing Co. posted.

Earlier this month Richmond City Council called a special meeting in an effort to help entice the brewery to choose Richmond. During the meeting,  council introduced legislation that would give property just west of Rocketts Landing the necessary zoning to potentially house Stone Brewing Co. Next month, council could approve special-use permits that would allow unlimited beer production on about 12 acres at the corner of Williamsburg Avenue and Nicholson Street.

The San Diego area beer maker has said it will build a multi-million dollar brewery, restaurant, and retail operation on the East Coast and confirmed in June that Richmond is in the running to land the project.
