CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. - Members of the Knights of Columbus at the Bishop Ireton Center in Chesterfield want to know who cut off the head of their statue of the Virgin Mary  this week.

Gene Zimmerman of the Knights of Columbus said he believed someone beheaded their Virgin Mary statue late Tuesday night

"It's very devastating," said Zimmerman, "This is a replica of the Blessed Mother."

Zimmerman said he believed the suspects took the head with them, but he has no idea who would do this.

"Whoever did it apparently had some hatred in his heart, I just don't understand it," he said.

He said the sculpture represented more than just a statue for their Catholic organization.

"The Blessed Mother is a member of the Knights of Columbus, always at the forefront of our belief," said Zimmerman.

The incident was reported to Chesterfield Police. Investigators said right now there are no suspect descriptions that can be provided.

"Whoever did it, I hope this is a one time deal and they never do it again," said Zimmerman.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield Police.
