ASHLAND, Va. -- Police are looking for the man who robbed the Food Lion on Junction Drive in Ashland. The man, described as a heavy-set white male, struck at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

"[He] produced a black and silver handgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of money," Ashland Police Department spokesman Officer Chip Watts wrote in an email. "The suspect is possibly driving a beige Ford Explorer or Expedition that has a blue front, passenger side quarter-panel."

CBS 6 talked Edward Harris, who said he was at the grocery store right around the time of the robbery. Harris said he was told the suspects car was parked right out front of the Food Lion before driving off.

"Someone had to have had a lot of nerves to do this because like I said, everyone here knows everybody," said Harris.

Those who work and frequent the grocery store said the area is a quiet one and it's unusual to see any sort of crime.

The robber, who police said was described a heavyset, in his late 30's or early 40's, and 5’9” tall, with short hair.  He wore a dark shirt and jeans during the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ashland Police at (804) 798-1227 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
