SALEM, Ore. — Would you know what to do if your beloved pet nearly drowned and needed to be revived? What if that pet was a reptile?

Sherrie Dolezal did not have much time to think when her bearded dragon lizard “Del Sol” fell into the swimming pool. When she found him, he was floating on the water and not breathing.

“I just grabbed him instantly, and turned him upside-down, and I started pounding him on his back and — and started crying,” Dolezal.

She also performed compressions on his tiny chest and blew air into his mouth. After a few minutes, she said Del Sol came back to life.

“My great-grandson said, ‘Grandma, I knew you and God worked together on this one,’ ’cause he says, ‘You saved my dragon,'” she said.

Dolezal runs a reptile rescue out of her home.
